Science Fair Extravaganza
Funded Dec 28, 2017Students used the boards that were kindly provided to present their science fair projects. The students conducted an investigation of their choosing and then presented their projects to the class. Next, we will be hosting our campus science fair in mid-March, where the best projects will be judged to determine first, second, and third place for each grade level.
The students had been assigned their projects back in December when I decided to seek help for our parents after enduring Hurricane HARVEY, and to my delight you chose to sponsor our project by supplying science fair boards to our students. So when the huge boxes arrived and were placed in the lab, I told them that a kind donor had sponsored us and that they would be getting FREE science fair boards. They LOVED it! They loved hearing that another one of our projects had been funded.
We are currently studying predictable cycles among the Sun, Earth and Moon. Then we will be moving into the Earth's atmosphere to study the water cycle and weather. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our students' education.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinez
This classroom project was brought to life by Someone who cares about Texas and one other donor.Building for the Future
Funded Dec 9, 2017Students used the dominoes that were donated for their mechanical lab. They tested, how the distance between the dominoes affected how long it takes for all the dominoes to fall? The students did this multiple times in order for their data to be reliable. Along the way, some of the students accidentally knocked them down and had to restart all over. Once they were done collecting their data, I allowed them to build whatever they wanted to build and they had a lot of FUN doing this investigation.
The students knew that they would be exploring mechanical energy to see how energy is transfer from object to another. So when they walked into the science lab and saw the dominoes, rulers, and iPads at each station they were so excited and could not wait to get started. As with all of our investigations they needed to start with their problem statement, hypothesis, data chart before beginning their experiment. Once they started, they had a great time learning about mechanical energy. They LOVED learning with DOMINOES and as a teacher that's the best feeling when your kids are learning and don't even know it.
Currently my students are exploring different forms of energy. My fourth graders will be learning about electricity in the next couple of weeks while the third graders will be learning about space science. Thank you all for allowing our students to have experiences like this and supporting their education.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinez
