Funded Oct 3, 2024Thank you so much for your generous support of my Donors Choose project. Thanks to your kindness, my students now have access to an amazing collection of graphic novels that are already making a difference in our classroom.
These books are not just stories on pages—they are tools that spark curiosity, build confidence, and create a love for reading. I've already seen students who were hesitant to pick up a book eagerly diving into these graphic novels, discussing characters, themes, and illustrations with enthusiasm.
Your contribution has not only expanded our library but has also opened new doors for my students to explore their imaginations and develop their literacy skills in a format they truly enjoy.
Thank you for believing in our classroom and making these books a reality for us. Your generosity is creating readers, thinkers, and dreamers.”

Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you so much for donating these amazing nonfiction texts to our classroom. The students and I are enjoying sharing these new books together.
The biographies are supporting learning around character, theme and how different people make an impact on the world in so many different ways. Students are amazed to see how crayons were created, what life is like living as a blind person and how ordinary people can change the world. The life lessons and what students take away from these books have been wonderful.
We have been researching different animals and using our new texts as tools to support us. Students were particularly excited for the Science Comics that were donated. This graphic novel approach to science topics is a different way for students to learn about a topic of interest. Some of my reluctant readers have really found these graphic novel science texts exciting and engaging, so it has been wonderful to see.
Thank you again for thinking of us and helping to build our classroom library.”

Funded Aug 22, 2023My students and I are enjoying the subscription to Scholastic News more than you could know. Students are engaged in these magazines with their current events, various articles on animals, sports, government and SO much more. I am able to use these magazines to teach text features, how informational text differs from fiction text and sharing with students another way to view non-fiction material. I love that students have their own copy, so they can work to highlight important parts, find evidence that supports their thinking and partner read articles.
The digital library has been a game changer too. I am able to connect this resource to my google classroom, so students can access the current issue from their chromebooks. Plus they can watch videos, read other articles and also work on different activities connected to each magazine. The digital resources allow them to use highlighter tools, sticky notes for their ideas and it also can be translated in Spanish for my students that might need this to help with understanding.
As you can see this Scholastic News Subscription is working beautifully in my classroom and my students are engaged readers with this informational magazine.
Thanks so much for thinking of us and gifting us this subscription.”

We Need More Books to Love
Funded Mar 23, 2021My students have been enjoying this project more than words can say. The book Rules by Cynthia Lord, that each student received, has already proven to be a favorite of ours. The characters and social issues we are able to discuss regarding autism, fitting in and standing up for what is right has helped us have some incredible discussions. Students are using their stickie notes to hold onto their ideas, mark spots in the books that are meaningful to them and allows them to share their thinking when we finish each chapter.
Initially we were full remote when I wrote this donors choose project, but MA deemed all schools to be back to in person learning as of April 1st. With the nice weather we have been taking our book outside, snacks too and enjoying our read a loud in the beautiful weather. Students are engaged and looking forward this time of the day. They also know this book will go home with them and become part of their personal libraries. My class knows this is a wonderful gift too. Being able to keep a chapter book for their own is so special.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!! My class and I are just thrilled to have these new texts and text sets in our hands this year. Reading is a pretty special time in our class each day. We begin our time together with a chapter book read a loud, where students gather on the rug to listen, think, and share our ideas around a text. Another huge component of our day is independent reading and book clubs. With these new texts and text sets, students can read with a partner, share their ideas and learn SO much together. It sparks an interest in a topic and encourages students to learn more.
Having the I Survived and Who Was series books allows students to learn more about history while meeting some pretty interesting characters along the way. They can apply what they have learned about studying character and think deeply about who they meet in history within these types of books. It makes learning fun and engaging for students. Nic Bishop has always been a favorite author of mine too and the texts that were donated will allow students to study spiders, frogs and so much more through interesting text and amazing pictures. Students focus on text features and structure to help support their learning. My class and I appreciate your generosity!!”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you SO much for your thoughtfulness in funding my project. My students enjoy reading Time For Kids immensely and it keeps them current on the world around them. How exciting for my class! They love reading them with partners, asking themselves questions about what they read and extending their thinking to look up and search for new ideas that they are learning with this news magazine.
It has been a wonderful addition to our classroom learning and library. It has helped support our informational unit with our focus on text features and how they support our learning.
Again, thank you for helping my students improve their reading by supporting them with this engaging news magazine.
Much thanks and appreciation,
