I am requesting 5 lab coats so that the "lab leader" of each group can wear one. I designate a lab leader for each experiment, who is in charge of: distributing and returning materials, answering any questions their lab group members have about the experiment, and helping their group resolve any conflicts and work as a team. Each student in the group gets the opportunity to serve as lab leader on a rotating basis. Having the chance to serve as a leader in their classroom empowers my students on both an academic and personal level. Being able to wear a lab coat will enhance their sense of leadership and identification with the role scientist even further.
