The students will gain more understanding of the life cycle of a chicken by being able to observe the process of hatching chickens. We will begin our study by reading the books we will receive about the life cycle of a chicken. Then the students will use the incubator, egg candler, and cage with heat lamp to observe the entire hatching process. In our classroom we use a lot of hands-on materials. Anything the students can manipulate to enhance their learning creates innovation and a sense of excitement. They will use the life cycle manipulatives to deepen their understanding of what they observed within the incubator. They will be able to observe and gather information about the chicken life cycle and use that information to make and write books to share with their family about what they have observed. The books, incubator, cage with heat lamp, and life cycle manipulatives will give my 3-6 year-old students the opportunity to witness the life cycle from the comforts of our classroom. Being able to observe, in the classroom, something found in nature will give them a chance to witness the life cycle in an exciting way!
