¡Nuestra Comunidad! Dramatic Play in the Bilingual Classroom
Funded Dec 15, 2022Thank you so much for contributing sets of costumes to our kindergarten dual language classrooms. As the year unfolds, we are finding more urgency to have students conversing and collaborating in Spanish orally. Your contribution helps us meet this academic goal.
As students learn about leaders in the world such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Greta Thunberg, they have begun to discuss how they can be leaders in their own community. The students will write about how they are similar to these famous world leaders and they will parade around the school to share their work with the community.
Using these donated costume boxes, they have been able to joyfully and playfully embody the role of community leaders and act out what it means to be a good leader. These materials have been a valuable addition to our unit on leadership and we could not have done it without the generosity of this community!”

Have Ya Heard? Let's Get Some New Headphones!
Funded Jun 10, 2022Your donation is helping students learn over at the Curley K-8 School. The set of headphones is being used by ESL students to integrate media into the classroom.
A tool that I began integrating last year, which had a big impact on students was EdPuzzle. Through EdPuzzle we are able to embed targeted questions, practice and content into existing YouTube videos. Students complete the work at their own pace on their Chromebook. In addition, the headphones help with the Modern Classroom approach. In ELA students use their Chromebooks to complete units of study with teacher led videos and modules.
Thank you for your generosity as we strive to create learning strategies that appeal specifically to middle school learners and English Learners who need to build their listening comprehension in English!”

Classroom Speaker Needed!
Funded Feb 6, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom speaker system Donors Choose project. The JBL Speaker is excellent, so easy to use and has improved access to classroom materials.
We recently incorporated video into our Silk Road Project. Students had to act out a character who would have journeyed on the Silk Road around the year 700CE. They had the option to record themselves using Flip Grid. We watched examples of Flip Grid videos in class and could, finally, clearly hear the sound through our brand new speakers!
In addition, music has become a big part of my classroom routine. I will often launch a lesson and then give students a set amount of time to work independently while listening to relaxing music. During our project work time we listened to a lot of classical Chinese music. The excellent sound system has really enhanced the class!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Berke
