This housekeeping station would be a great tool used daily for students to strengthen their social skills, math understanding, science applications, sharing, critical thinking and more. Learning through play is critical in Kindergarten and this would allow my students to interact with brightly colored, well made toys that relate directly to our standards of learning. The students would benifit by using this station daily during reading centers, math centers and inside recess.
This kitchen set would provide all of my students the opportunity to explore and play while practicing several critical Kindergarten skills. This play kitchen includes a fridge, stove top and sink. Students could role play and model behaviors seen in books, famous Americans we study, educational video clips and recreate what they see at home. While learning with the pot and pan set students would be able to practice, first, then, next and last skills. The pot and pan set would be a wonderful tie into our solid, liquid and gas unit.
The toy food items with baskets would be wonderful for students to review sorting, an important math skill. The food would also help foster responsibility as well as reinforce a balanced healthy diet. This high quality toy food would last for years, benefiting more than 100 kids. The canned food with removable lids would be great fine motor practice, helping build the muscle strength needed for writing, cutting and coloring. The cans, just as the toy food, would be wonderful for sorting practice. This would be an exciting way to get students up out of their seats and doing hands on learning. This station would pair wonderfully with Kindergarten oral, social, math and science standards of learning.
