Most students in my school are from middle class working families, and most students are able to come to the media center and quietly read or work. However, like all public middle schools, my school has a number of students who, for whatever reason, are not able to quietly sit and read. They need to MOVE... these are not only students who are in special education or are diagnosed with ADHD. Often they are simply the boys and girls who have excessive energy... who want to be good and want to read, but simply can't sit still. They are fidgeters, and they deserve a place where they can burn off their energy while reading and learning. A recent study (posted on NPR) has proven that movement helps concentration for these students.
