In our classroom, we have 1 teacher laptop, 1 teacher desktop and a smartboard. The emphasis is on the teacher, and this does not bring out student creativity and motivation. I frequently loan out the teacher laptop, but with only one device and a handful of student devices there is just not enough technology for students to feel empowered. With 5 extra chromebooks to add to the mix, students would have the opportunity to personalize their own learning. By this I mean that students would have the chance to experiment with other ways of learning, rather than having to listen to me all the time. I want students to be at the center of their learning, while also learning valuable technology skills that will help them be productive members of society down the road. I would like to use the chromebooks to set up a station rotation model. This way I could break students up in to groups. I envision having a computer group, a teacher group, and an independent work group. In the computer group, students would watch videos, create presentations, or find topics that interest them. In the teacher group I could help small groups with labs, give direct instruction, or even a chance to give feedback and hear student feedback. In the independent work group students would have a chance to practice skills they have learned.
