Being a kindergarten and first grade classroom, my students are pretty active and at times have some pretty short attention spans. It is a big job to keep one grade occupied while teaching the other grade. Kindergartners need activities and materials that they can work on independently and not have to ask for help from the teacher. This situation is not ideal, however being a very small rural school with very few students, this is what we have to adjust to in my classroom.
Students need material that they can work on independently in the classroom.
I need my students to have available materials they can take and do by themselves while other learning is going on. Tables are needed in the class, so my students can spread out and not be disruptive to other classmates. The tables and materials could also be used for literacy centers during reading time.
