This project will help us motivate our students through inquiry and hands on learning. We are currently in the process of renovating our library, and right now is a space with books and white walls. Our students currently do not get excited to visit the library. Our hope is that by adding different STEAM components, their thinking will change. Through the Maker Space, students will get the opportunity to imagine, create, and reflect upon their creations without the academic constraints. The materials we are asking for will be motivating and stimulating as well as exciting for our 9 and 10 year old population. Within this project, we are asking for Legos along with base plates for students to be able to use their imaginations to build and not be limited through classroom constraints. Students will be able to plan constructions, collaborate with other students, create the structures, and reflect while making changes if needed. The LEGO baseplates will be secured on a table so that 6 different work stations are set for our students. The sets that we are asking for also comes with 2 other baseplates that can moved to other areas within the library if needed. The 6 stools will be used around the LEGO table, and allow students to be able to move in a safe manner while also not disturbing others. Our current library sits in a low area of the school, so we are unable to put carpet in the space. The two area rugs will be used to help make the space more cozy, and also had a nice warm space for the students to work on the floor. The colors of the room will help make the space more inviting and colorful than its current condition.
