Books, Books, Books!
Funded Nov 12, 2019Thank you so much for contributing to our project! Since the books arrived, my students have been so excited to pick up a new book every day during independent reading. Their ability to choose books they want to read has created a more positive attitude toward reading in our classroom.
With such a wide array of genres in our classroom library, we are enjoying trying new texts we had been more hesitant to read in the past. Students are picking up comic books, nonfiction texts, and chapter books on a daily basis.
During independent reading, I have noticed increased stamina and engagement as a result. Students are sharing their reading with each other and wanting to share stories with the class. I can't thank you enough for this!”

New Year . . . New Supplies!
Funded Aug 12, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations towards our beginning of the school year project! The basic supplies we received have allowed us to start off the school year strong! The folders and notebooks have allowed us to stay organized in all our subjects. The pencils, crayons, and pencil cases have also set us up for success and given us what we need to succeed in third grade.
Additionally, the chart paper and markers have allowed us to display our learning throughout our classroom. All of our basic supplies will give us the resources for a great year!”

From Readers to Leaders!
Funded Nov 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations towards our classroom reading project! As of today, we have read six sets of the books during our reading groups. Students have enjoyed learning more about informational topics such as sharks and Benjamin Franklin. They have also deepened their vocabulary and fluency skills on a daily basis by reading books so well fit for them. I cannot tell you how much they enjoy reading such current and exciting texts.
Students are also utilizing these texts during independent reading time. With such interesting topics, they are far more engaged and focused than ever. This has also contributed to their reading stamina as a class...they are now up to 25 minutes of uninterrupted silent reading! The books are contributing to more enthusiasm for reading, and I couldn't be more grateful for that!
Additionally, students are learning many new skills using these texts. They are learning how to summarize, find main idea, use text features, and much more! These skills are imperative for well-rounded readers, especially since they will be taking MCAS for the first time this school year. I cannot wait to see them grow as the rest of these texts are introduced!”

Creating a Comfortable Classroom Library!
Funded Aug 7, 2018Thank you so much for providing my students with the materials they need to grow this year in third grade! So far this year we have been practicing responsible ways to use our new reading flexible seating. We discuss what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to use them all the time. My students love to take turns using the flexible seating pillows everyday for independent reading time. I notice all the time how focused they have become as readers by using these materials daily. We also love our new rug and bench because we have a comfortable, community area to share our books and reading time. Having more storage space has allowed us to store even more books!
Our new materials actually showed up on the first day of school while students were at lunch! You should've seen the look on their faces when they saw that I had set up our colorful, cozy reading materials! They couldn't wait to dive on in.
Moving forward our class will continue to utilize our classroom library materials every day to become more independent, focused readers! We can only hope that we will soon have more books to fill it up!
Thank you so much!”

Teaching Tools Galore!
Funded Mar 2, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity towards this project! My students were so excited to receive and open our beautiful new easel, and we have been using it every day since! Our easel is the center of our learning in the classroom; we use it for math number talks, displaying our anchor charts, and for test-taking strategies during testing season. We love how mobile it is because we can move it all around the classroom, especially during small group learning!
The colored pencils, glue sticks and scissors have been essentials for many of our tactile projects. For example, students worked on finding the area and perimeter of models online, and were able to replicate the figures using the colored pencils. They are so ecstatic to have the resources to bring their learning to life in vibrant ways. Additionally, we use the scissors and glue every week to work on science interactive notebooks. Students are very careful to treat each resource with respect because they are thankful for our donors.
Moving forward, I would love to expand the level of flexible seating in our classroom for the next school year. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for 233!”

Hands-On Learning Resources!
Funded Nov 13, 2017Thank you so much for our classroom resources. When our counters, white boards, magnetic letters and centers first arrived, my students could not wait to open the big box! They could not believe how lucky we were to receive such great resources for our classroom so quickly.
We have recently been using our white board sleeves to learn how to identify fractions on a number line and to compare fractions. Students are able to use whiteboards to solve problems during lesson time, and to problem solve during independent work time. They were so happy to have a sleeve and white board marker in their desk to use when needed. This has allowed my students to grasp many fraction concepts in a very fun and exciting way. Additionally, since our school has budget cuts on paper, this allows us to conserve paper in math every day!
The magnetic letters have been a great resource for our reading group time of the day. Students are able to use letters for many word work activities and are enthusiastic about coming to group as a result. This has allowed me to increase our hands-on time and follow the Jan Richardson model at the same time!
I am so thankful for the generosity towards this project. Every dollar spent has truly helped my students progress during such an important, transitional school year. I can't wait to start a new project during my next free minute!!”
