Utilizing more technology in our classrooms directly contributes to increased life opportunities and better learning outcomes for our students. Technology allows teachers to differentiate class learning so that all students can individually be challenged and reinforced. Our students can use iPad tablets every day to work hard on reading comprehension activities, conceptual development of math skills, and independent practice with standards taught by teachers. We can use these essential learning tools to fairly assess our students' learning and target specific skills and interventions for each child. Technology helps us to motivate and engage students who may struggle to learn in traditional ways. Please help us chip away at the digital divide that exists in our classrooms for young students of color and students living in homes without technology or internet access. In Philadelphia, only about 71.6% of households have internet access, demonstrating the second-lowest percentage reported when compared to 25 large cities across the country. If we want our kids to be successful in today's world, we must provide daily practice navigating learning tools and developing technological skills that they will need to compete in college, careers, and life beyond. While we have some technology available to our students at school, we do not currently have enough for all students to have equitable access each day. With your help, we can work to remove barriers that keep kids from learning technological skills and experiencing the digital world in school.
