The reason students come to school is to learn! I want my students to learn in an environment where they are supported, not just by their teacher, but also by the resources they have. That includes how they learn. A chair is not always the best learning environment for a student who needs to move to focus. Wiggle seats, yoga balls, elastic straps, and stools will impact students’ learning in a huge way. Many of my students would benefit from being able to move in a way that is not distracting to other students. Flexible seating will give my students options and the opportunity to learn in a seat that meets their needs. At the moment, I only have chairs for my students to use. My goal is to provide a variety of options for flexible seating for my students to increase focus and learning. Some students may choose to sit in a chair with a wiggle seat or on a yoga ball. Other students may find that an elastic strap on their desk will keep their feet moving while still sitting in a regular chair or a stool. Stools will be used to form small groups around the room, as well as be used at the small group table for small group instruction. Stools will also benefit students by allowing more students to fit around the small group table, increasing the number of students benefiting from extra instruction.
