As creative learners, it's rare you will walk into my classroom and see my students at their desks. Most often, we're standing at the back counter learning, on the floor with clipboards, or even sitting on top of our desks! Flexible seating will give my students a way to have choices on how they're learning which will help them achieve the most they can. My students are teachers, creators, innovators and leaders. To let them reach their full potential I have looked into what would help them best and that is flexible seating! One of the first things on my list is active learning stools. These are meant for students who have trouble staying still when we need to be. This gives them the option to wiggle and wobble all the while not distracting their neighbors who may not need the same support. Another thing I've asked for is yoga balls. These are for low to the ground desks, this is another great option for students who need to get out some wiggles and wobbles, but also lets them be closer to the ground and a little more comfortable. For students that like to sit on the floor, there are inflatable wobble cushions on my list. These will allow students to comfortably sit on the floor. One side of these has raised edges for students that need a little more sensory throughout the day. Lastly, wobble bands (can you tell how wiggly and wobbly my students are! Probably because their teacher is the same way!). These bands attach to either their chairs or desks, to help those kids who need a little movement with their legs and feet throughout the day.
