Imagine trying to listen to a science video, but being easily distracted by your neighbor who is collaborating with their partner. Imagine how you'd react if you were trying to write in your science journal, but your neighbor was reading in a small group and you couldn't concentrate. Imagine that you wanted your friend to listen to the video you created, but there was only one headphone jack (and the room was supposed to stay quiet!). These are everyday problems in my science classroom.
Many of my students are distracted by noises in the classroom, and we need a variety of headphones to not only research, watch, read but, communicate, create, and collaborate in science projects.
The Sound of Science allows those students who need a quieter environment (e.g. to focus or hearing the audio portion of a video resource) to cancel out the noise of others in the workspace and create meaningful projects together.
Further, we need a set of headphones that students can plug into the iPads. Our reading and mathematics programs are all online. Students are required to listen to math problems, phonics, videos via technology, and with their broken headphones make this basically impossible. Further to minimize the distractions that can come from multiple iPads at the same time, we need headphones so all students can learn without experiencing distractions. Noise cancelling headphones are needed for students with special needs to help them concentrate. A headphone splitter will be used when multiple students want to listen to the same technology, and give them the opportunity to work together during science projects.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider giving to our project. I know your effort will assist in making a difference in the lives of my students.
