The requested materials will help my students stay engaged while they build their language and communication skills during individual and small group therapy at school. The Fisher Price Little People items will be used to build functional play skills, joint attention, reciprocal communication, age-appropriate vocabulary. These are skills I simply can't target through worksheets or flash cards. The list of communication skills that can be taught through functional play is endless, and I know my students learn best when they are fully engaged. Books will be used to build early literacy skills (the more a child is read to, the better!!). Building blocks will serve to assist in learning key phrases like "put on," "take off," "my turn," and "your turn." Then they could see the cause and effect of knocking the tower over. I see so much potential in my students. These materials will help grow their language in infinite ways so that they may succeed academically and interact appropriately with peers within their general education classrooms.
