I recently used a break out box activity with my students as a review activity. The students thoroughly enjoyed working with their groups and working toward breaking into the box to get their prizes. Students were able to practice with their communication skills and critical thinking skills. However, the boxes that were used belong to the school and are checked out quiet frequently. I feel that my students would benefit from this activity but they need to be available all the time. These will also allow me to differentiate the instruction and make it personal for every student. Students can be grouped by ability level and even with higher or lower students. This will challenge them to work with people of different back grounds and build a 21 century skill. Each Lock will be used as a tool that the students will have to break into. They will accomplish this goal by completing a set of tasks provided on a clue card. The tasks the students will be completing will be relevant to the material being covered in class. The boxes themselves will contain prizes and timers inside to help motivate the students to solve the clues as fast as they can. Each box will hold a smaller 3 digit box which can be optional to use. The box will be secured with the 6 point lock and the rest of the locks will be clipped on to this device. After each lock is unlocked, by following the clues the students will come one step closer to "Breaking out".
