All of my students love to listen to books. I read to my students every day. I choose a variety of levels and materials to read from to expose them to as many new vocabulary words as possible, to introduce them to as many new places and people as possible, and to allow them time to enjoy a good book. The books in this project include math, science, and social studies stories for many levels of readers. I love teaching 3rd Grade! The rigor that reading entails in 3rd grade is still a challenge for so many of my students. I have students ranging from a Kindergarten reading level to a 5th-grade reading level - and they all can benefit from listening and following along with the book. Numerous studies have shown that students with access to a listening library develop a greater interest in reading, improved literacy skills and comprehension and 3) increased vocabulary and syntax levels. It's my hope to create a listening center with a library of stories as diverse as my students. Listening centers involve the use of headphones for students to listen to CD's or MP3 files while reading along with the accompanying picture book. My students are in need of headphones, CD's and books to use in a listening center.
