Young Artists Can’t Wait to Get Printing!
Funded Feb 3, 2023I wanted to express my sincere thanks for providing my Kindergarten through fifth grade students the amazing experience of printing with gelli plates!
My art students were so excited to touch and squish the gelli plates, and even more excited to spread the paint, draw designs, and experiment with pulling prints! After printing, students were able to use their printed papers to create beautiful collages, cards, or just enjoy the prints.
I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy this artistic medium with my students and facilitate their creativity and appreciation and love of art.”
With gratitude,

Tillicum Village: Northwest Coastal Indian Adventure
Funded Jan 25, 2018Our trip to Tillicum Village is complete, and it was awesome!
After the long bus ride to Seattle, the energy level on bus was amplified as soon as we saw the Seattle waterfront. The students were so excited to board the Argosy ferry and cross the Salish Sea to Blake Island. On the way, we were treated to Native American storytellers in beautiful button blankets and masks acting out the tale of the first salmon.
Upon our arrival to the island, we were greeted by otters playing on the docks. We made our way under the welcome sign up to the main longhouse surrounded by beautiful totem poles. The students were in awe of the tall poles and carved animal characters we had just read about and seen pictures of. Seeing and touching them in person was a treat!
As we made our way through the longhouse we could smell the smoke of the open fires cooking our traditional salmon and got a glimpse of the fish roasting on the wooden sticks. The entire meal was fabulous with many students tasting salmon for the first time. They were hooked!
After our meal, the show began with music, drums, dancers, and masks! It was exciting to watch the experts skillfully operate the giant masks and make the animal characters come to life! Meeting the dancers and taking pictures with their masks was a must after the show.
Before heading back to Seattle, students were able to explore the island beaches and trails.
This experience enabled our students to see first hand what the beautiful Northwest Coast Indian culture is all about and could not have happened without your support. Our students will never forget our trip to Tillicum Village nor will they lose their respect for this vibrant culture right in our backyard! Many students said, "This is best day of my life!" Thank you is not enough, but thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Smith
