Critical Reading and Writing Adventures
Funded Sep 4, 2023Thank you, again, so much for your donation to my classroom. These materials have allowed me to keep students on task, organized, and focused.
The classroom timer has helped my kids work on their focus by giving them a visual reminder as to how long they are taking to complete each task in class. This has helped ensure that assignments are turned in on time, but also helped them learn how to work under a time limit--something helpful for the timed tests we will be taking in the future.
The markers have been absolutely essential almost daily in my class. As my students annotate, they are now able to color code different literary elements and aspects of the text with these markers, which truly helps them visualize how it all works together. They have also been able to color code different aspects of their own written analysis to make sure it's complete.”

Winter Reading Wonderland
Funded Nov 24, 2022Thank you for making our annual Literacy Night another INCREDIBLE success! We had more students attend than ever before -- over 100 -- and each one of them walked away with a literacy-centered prize of some kind.
It's becoming a memorable tradition at our school to provide this experience to our students, and they know that if they attend they will have a fun time and feel special. Your donations help our school create that experience! Seeing their faces light up when they look at all the prizes waiting on the stage is incredibly rewarding.”

100% Chance of Reading
Funded Sep 23, 2021I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for helping me get a special reading room started for my high schoolers! They loved all the graphic novels I was able to get them, and I was able to start decorating the space to make it feel like a safe haven for readers.
I still have a long way to go, as I would love to replace the desks with some more comfortable seating options and ambient lighting, but my students love having a space to find a fun, not-assigned book to read and relax to.
I'm planning on having students write reviews on some of the books in the room to post on the shelves to help students choose their next read.”

Funded Nov 22, 2019MLCPA's Literacy and Science Night was a ROUSING success! We had over one hundred students from grades sixth through twelfth attend the event. They participated in Halloween themed science experiments, a variety of different literacy activities, including a literary escape room! They analyzed a text to get past various challenges to escape the monster! It was all so much fun. They had a great time using all these fun and educational activities to earn raffle tickets for prizes.
Every student left with a book (or more than one!) and candy, and a few select students were able to win big prizes that included items funded by this Donor's Choose project. THANK YOU so much for making Literacy and Science Night an exciting night for our young scholars. We can't wait to make it happen again next year!”

Funded Oct 8, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donation for these materials! This year our robotics team has struggled with funding more than ever before, but with your contributions we were not only able to make our engineering plans a reality, but surpass them. The boys were ecstatic when the project got funded so quickly, and humbled that so many people were willing to help them succeed.
The boys used the wires and electronics parts to create secure connections between their robots and the command phones. It was easier with the tools to manipulate the electronics to make custom robots and wiring to fit their needs. The result was a more reliable connection between the robots and phones, which meant that they didn't have to waste opportunities at competitions due to lost or flimsy connections.
Currently our teams are doing FANTASTIC at their competitions, and we have one more qualifier before we know if we're moving to the next level! We can't wait to share our successes with y'all in the future. Once again, thank you for everything you do to help our boys achieve their goals and dreams.”

Funded Nov 9, 2017Without your generous contributions, my boys would not have been able to create such a successful robot. This robot went on to place them as the number one time in HISD! The materials allowed them to create a custom electrical system for their robot, eliminating bulkiness, as well as a custom arm coming off of the robot which allowed them to complete the competition's challenge of lifting blocks.
Creating these unique parts requires expensive tools and materials, items they would not have had access to without your help. Every time these boys interact with new and unique tools and materials, they gather valuable skills they'll need not only for the robotics tournaments, but also in future endeavors or even careers. Thank you for helping create these situations and opportunities for these young men, who are loving every second of their robotics experience.”

Mrs. Laforet
