Our library needs these 8 Chromebooks because our technology is currently extremely out of date. Although our students need to do research and it is expected to be taught in the Media Center, the computers freeze, break, and frequently will not access the internet. Lessons involving computers are also hard to teach when the student-to-technology ratio is 2-1. As of now, our Media Center has 11 student computers that are extremely out-of-date, which are six Dell Optiplex 790s and 1 Dell Optiplex 990 with 4 n-computing computers attached. The Dell Optiplex 790s are approximately 7 years old, have 3 GB of memory and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The Dell Optiplex 990 is also approximately 7 years old with 3 GB of memory and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz. Since the 3 Gb of memory is running 5 computers, the system is very slow. In addition to research, computers are frequently used daily for lessons and for center time. When computers do not work, students are discouraged and their learning is affected. Many of our students are already struggling academically, so we need every advantage we can to help them succeed.
