Our students have been diagnosed with various disabilities and cognitive deficits. We have a direct care area where the students are changed (diapers)and toileted twice daily. The school has OT/PT, a school nurse and aide, a part time dentist, speech therapists, a part time social worker and psychologist. They are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch daily. We are a public school in the District of Columbia, considered a citywide school that services students all over the metropolitan DC area. Our students are bused in daily. Upon graduation, our students will be placed in various types of programs such as independent living group homes and community training facilities. Most of our students come from low income families and receive some form of public assistance. They will continue to receive some type of support for the rest of their lives. Our students range from the ages of 3 to 22 years old. They come from various ethnic backgrounds but are predominately African American.
