I am an ELA teacher. In ELA, we try to make reading as fun as possible. One way that we do this is to encourage the students to make meaningful art about the stories we read. My students are exceptionally creative! They love to transform our literature into art! Any time we have a chance to add color, pictures, or any type of personalization they raise to the occasion. They love to see their artwork hanging in the classroom. I would love to give them more opportunities to create at school. As of right now, I only have a handful of art supplies in my room and I purchased all of them myself. I have up to 30+ students at a time, so I don't have enough for them to use at one time. I would like to set up 30 student sets of art supplies. We will use the glue sticks, markers, poster board, colored pencils, construction paper, and paint markers to help students visualize and create images about the stories we read. For example, after we read an example of imagery, I ask the students to draw the scenery including as many details as possible. This greatly increases the students’ comprehension of the text because a vast majority of us are visual learners. These classroom sets of basic art supplies would afford them the opportunity to further comprehend what we learn and it will be greatly appreciated!
