My students are extraordinary young individuals with extreme potential. They challenge me each day in the classroom because they all come in every day with a unique set of needs based on the experiences they have outside of the classroom. These experiences often include fulfilling adult roles at home that rob them of their typical childhood experiences. Due to this slight, their need for engagement in a school setting is exceptionally critical to success. All of my students qualify for free lunch. They live in Englewood, a neighborhood within the violent city of Chicago which highly contributes to the negative reputation of "Chi-raq." I believe that if my students are given proper resources, our nation will begin to see them as I do, individuals who can use their experiences to make a positive difference in our world.
