My students are very unique and have very diverse needs. In my daily teaching practice, I have to make sure I reach all my students' needs. In order to do that, my teaching has to be diverse to match their specific needs. I provide my students with hands-on learning activities that are engaging and researched base. They learn more from moving, talking, building, creating, and exploring, than from listening to the teacher talk all day. With the clay and art supplies, I plan on using these items for reading comprehension, literary centers and vocabulary enrichment. Students are going to use the clay to create sculptures of the main characters and settings from the stories we read. They'll give a presentation about their sculpture and use infORmation from the text to summarize their learning about the main characters and settings. I feel these particular lessons will benefit my whole class because they are reaching all learning modalities. My English Learners will gain rich vocabulary and my special needs students will get to build and create along with the rest of the class. In order to mold my students into great readers and writer, I need the proper tools to teach. I have to pull small groups and run independent literacy centers. At centers, my students will get to practice literacy skills and work collaboratively with classmates. While students are working at literacy centers, I will be able to teach at my guided reading table. With the materials that I have asked for, I will be able to create an author's center, a book of the week center, a word work center and a science center. The centers will be filled with supplies that are need to accomplish the task.
