As we embark on this new school year, my students were eager to get into the classroom and get reading! Not having the opportunity to borrow books since this pandemic started, I was so excited to show my students these new additions to our classroom library. We just wrapped up our first Reading unit, Building a Reading Life! This unit reviewed strategies about how to become more independent readers. For example, give yourself a comprehension check at the end of each chapter, reading books like gold and picking just right books! They couldn't wait to pick books and get reading! As we continue on this year and read across genres, these books will help my students understand the concepts being taught during their independent work time. We also have began using the site called FlipGrid while students are working remotely. As a way to wrap up this unit, students created videos where they discussed a book they would recommend to one of their friends! It was so exciting to see how eager they were to show off these books and explain why they loved them so much!”

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. As you can see, my students were eager to enter school this year despite these trying times. Since we left school in March, my students haven't had many opportunities to "book shop" while at home like they did on a weekly basis in the classroom. It was so exciting to see their faces as I showed them these brand new books! They couldn't wait to take a look and put some in their book baggies. We started off the school year by reading fiction books and reviewing strategies that can help my students build their reading lives at school and at home. We have to be socially distanced in the classroom, which means students have a lot of time to read independently and work in smaller groups of 2-3 students. When we are working virtually, we use the website Flipgrid for students to post videos of their work. Recently, they shared a fiction book that they would recommend to a friend! These were really great to see, it showed how eager they were to talk about their books and why they loved them so much. I know these books will be a great addition to our classroom all year long as we embark on new genres of reading and writing work. These titles will help bring these units to life! Many thanks =)”

Thank you so much for contributing to my project! My students will be so excited to use these materials in our classroom in order for them to take some BRILLIANT BRAIN BREAKS! Again, this is greatly appreciated. I can't wait to show you all the creativity that ensues among my students!”
These materials will allow my students to take a break from their daily routines and engage in meaningful activities with their peers! They enjoy hands-on activities and these building sets will give my students the chance to get creative and showcase their skills outside of reading, writing, and math time. I know my students will love the opportunity to play with a variety of building sets and other activities that I can turn into interactive and engaging center activities each week. It will also be a great opportunity for them to build their communication skills with their peers in groups!
