Sensory input and calming is vital in a special education setting. My students with autism have many sensory needs. Each of these items will be used in different ways and will benefit my students tremendously. The swing and calming light will be used in the sensory room when a student needs to calm down from over-stimulation. The tent will be used for a calm down area in the classroom when students need to take a break from their work time. The vest and chewy will be used as sensory input for each student during work time. The water/sand table will be used for sensory free time and fine motor activities. All other items will be used for functional hands-on academics in the classroom. The toddler time set and math center set will be used for work stations which allow the students to work on their IEP goals. The emotion cards will be used for students to learn different emotions and recognize the faces that go along with each emotion. Last of all, the VB-Mapp book will be used to increase my students' communication skills.
