Leaders with Laptops

My students and i are extremely grateful for your generous donation of three Chromebooks. The impact of your donation has been incredible. The students were so excited the moment they saw the laptops as it allows for many more students to utilize the laptops since many of the classroom computers are not functioning and take an extended amount of time to load. As soon as the laptops had internet and were setup, the students began using them. They have used them not only for educational programs such as i-Ready, Reflex Math, Sumdog, and Khan Academy, but also for research projects. Students especially enjoy researching the topics being discussed in Science and Social Studies.
The most exciting aspect of the laptops to the students was their portability. Students were thrilled at the notion of being able to use the laptops from the comfort of their own desks or any other space in the room to work both independently and in groups. For some students it was the first time they used laptops and it was so exciting to see them utilize a laptop mouse and the laptop overall. This has enabled students who typically do not have access to such technological advancements to be suddenly immersed into something new. Students have also been very excited about the fact that more of them have been able to utilize the computers and access the internet during class time due to having more technology with these capabilities.
All students have been very interested in the new technology available to them in the classroom. Students of the gifted have been able to quench their thirst for more knowledge by having laptops available to them to complete more research activities and projects. Students with intellectual disabilities have found the laptops engaging as they enjoy completing educational programs that reinforce lessons being learned. Students who are second language learners have found the laptops very helpful in translating text from their online textbooks to their native language in order to help them grasp the concepts being learned.
Overall, there are no words to express just how thankful my students and myself are for your donation. We have just begun to feel the huge impact of your generosity and we are sure to see its lasting effects for a long time to come.”

The use of computers are pivotal in any classroom in today's technology age. In order to enhance student learning, computer programs are utilized on a daily basis for students to access. For instance, one-third of my class must complete a computer program called Imagine Learning for twenty minutes a day as they are learning the English language. This program works wonders in helping students access the English language in a fun and child-friendly way. Students are thrilled everyday when they have the opportunity to utilize the computers to enhance their learning experiences. At the moment, our classroom only has four computers which slows down the computer rotations significantly. Due to the number of students in our classroom and the limited number of computers, all students do not get an adequate amount of technology time as there are simply not enough hours in the day to get them all online without missing essential instruction. In addition to Imagine Learning, all students are also expected to be completing iReady in order to work on their reading and mathematics skills. Due to the limited number of computers and our class size, some students are not able to have an equal amount of time on the computers on a weekly basis. If there were three additional laptops and optical mice in the classroom, not only would more students be able to utilize the computer programs on a daily basis, but students would have more time during center time without having to quickly switch to the next student.
