My students are curious and eager to learn about the lives and experiences of other people. They do not get exposed to as many different cultures and traditions as students growing up in large cities because we live in such a small town. They also need to be exposed to diverse technology in order to compete with other students when they leave our small town for college. I want to expose them to diverse literature, diverse experiences and diverse technology. At our school students have access to PCs but they do not have access to Mac computers. More and more students use Macs in college and having a classroom Mac for my students to use would allow them to learn both PC programs and Mac programs.
My students want to make personal connections to the literature we study and the more they are able to travel outside of our community, with the help of technology, the more they learn about other places and people; therefore, they are able to make more meaningful connections to what they are learning. Specifically, my students do many presentations in class where they create visual aids and teach their peers about their assigned topic. A Mac would allow them to create memorable presentations using Keynote. I would be able to instruct them not only in Google Slides, but in the Apple presentation program Keynote. This would help them in college and in the work force after high school when they need to present professionally. Additionally, Mac computers come with iPhotos, iMovie, Garageband, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, FaceTime, iTunes, Maps and more already installed, so students will be able to edit photos, make movies, create music and take their work to an entirely different level of excellence!
