Each of my students have their own reason for wanting to learn American Sign Language. A few of my students have attempted to communicate with students who are deaf in the school or community. The supplies of dictionaries and beginning books, will help me be able to teach more students at a time, while also allowing the students to be able to search for their own information. This will help the students to be able to connect with students at their school, younger students and people in their community. Since sign language is visual, movies will help with the different perspective of those who have hearing losses while also exposing students to different forms of sign language that the books alone don't represent. Most of the students in the school have not met someone who is deaf before. All the students have unknowingly talked to someone with a hearing loss. Many of the common questions that students ask can be answered by the stories or movies. These movies and book offer multiple view points from deaf families raising children with and without a hearing loss, to deaf individuals writing about their experiences growing up. There is also a variety of writing styles that the students can read to really appreciate the perspectives of the authors and their stories.
