  • Scholastic News and Science Spin Magazines for Third Graders

    Funded Sep 9, 2022

I look forward to having the Scholastic News and Science Spin magazine delivered to my third grade classroom. The students take home the magazine every week and tell me how much they enjoy reading the high interest science and social studies articles. Having the lower grade edition helps reach every reader in my class. They are excited to share what they've learned from reading the fascinating articles. This reading practice has improved their reading skills and they are becoming avid readers. The activities are standards-based and they love the videos and games they play after reading the magazine! Thank you for allowing my students to read such educational, high interest, science and social studies content!”

  • Classroom Supplies to Start the New School Year

    Funded Sep 14, 2021

Throughout this school year, the supplies you funded for my third grade classroom have been used copiously. The students used the markers, pencils and crayons for all subject areas and even take them home to use for their homework. The chart paper has been used for anchor charts for reading, writing and math strategies. The book baggies allowed the students to bring books back and forth from home to school. The copy paper is used for worksheets, homework sheets and writing responses. I can't thank you enough for making sure my students have these essential supplies for the school year. The notebooks were a tremendous help for homework, classwork and writing prompts.”

  • Book Series for Third Graders

    Funded Nov 18, 2021

It is important for students to practice their reading in order to improve their reading. Having a plethora of high-interest books in the classroom for students to choose from and read is my goal as a teacher. I really appreciate the funding of this project in order for my third graders to have access to these books. The students read one and continue through the series. They are eager to choose more books and to take them home. My students' reading levels have increased greatly and I know this is due to their increased reading practice. Thank you again for allowing me to have these books that I will treasure for my future third grade classes.”

  • Leveled Books for Third Grade Readers

    Funded Dec 7, 2021

Books are such an important component in a school classroom. In order for me to teach my students to read well and instill a love for reading, I must have a great supply of books in my classroom library. With your help, I was able to provide my students with a rich, high interest library. My students read in the morning, during independent reading time and at home. They love to choose new books every week and take them home. The books you provided were read and loved. Students were able to read for longer periods of time and their reading levels improved. Thank you so much for providing me with books for my students. I'm sure these books have made my third graders lifelong readers!”

  • A Sense of Safety this School Year!

    Funded Dec 21, 2020

The masks really came in handy! Students break masks constantly and come to school with adult masks that do not fit properly. The students even receive a handful to have at home as well. The air purifier has cleaned the air in the very large room we occupy. I know that this has kept us healthy during this pandemic. Every day I disinfect the students' desks and the gloves have been so helpful! The students use the hand sanitizer constantly and it has been instrumental in keeping us healthy. I can't thank you enough for giving my third grade class such essential supplies during this difficult school year.”

  • Would Love to Attend a Webinar to Strengthen My Teaching

    Funded May 17, 2020

One of the academic goals of the school I work in is a focus on small group writing instruction. The author of the book, The Writing Strategies offered a webinar series to teachers to guide the use of her book. Thanks to you, I had the opportunity to attend and strengthen my skills in teaching writing to my third graders. In this webinar series, I learned teaching strategies like modeling and assessing individual students' strengths and needs, leading goal setting conversations, and following up on goals with conferring and small groups. I learned what questions to ask to focus on teaching the writer and not the writing. I am very thankful that you took the time to donate to my teaching journey.”

  • Classroom Supplies for Third Grade

    Funded Sep 7, 2020

My students live in a high poverty area and most of the time they don't have the necessary supplies needed for school. During a pandemic, where they are in school some of the time and home some of the time it is even worse. I am so happy that I was able (thanks to your generous donations) to supply them (in home and school) with pencils, gel pens, paper and dry erase markers. This assisted them with classwork and homework. The copy paper helped with writing assignments, calendars, and their fluency folders (which helped with their reading growth). When we switched to in person learning five days a week, the pen pal pen/pencil holders helped keep their writing utensils on their desk (great with containing germs). My students and I are grateful for your kindness during this difficult time in a school setting. Thank you so much!!!!!!”

  • Math Tools and Centers with Flexible Seating for Third Grade

    Funded Oct 14, 2019

The math tools and the flexible chairs you funded my classroom were put to good use! I can't thank you enough for allowing the students to practice their math skills by using the Power Pen. They are always asking to use the Power Pen center. This math practice will help them for the NY state math test in May. They love to sit in the Flex chairs in the math area to use math centers. The magnetic arrays helped tremendously with our multiplication unit because it was a great visual for multiplication fact and word problems. Thanks again!”
