As an occupational therapist it is my responsibility to identify why a student may be struggling and to help them come up with solutions to overcome such struggles. My students this year are having a very difficult time coping with a very frustrating curriculum. Secondary to their diagnosis, they have experience severe sensory and emotional regulation deficits, so that when they are faced with a challenge they will often melt down and are then unable to fully participate in the classroom. Unfortunately, they can sometimes become a danger to themselves and others. Your donation to this project will provide my students with a safe and secure space where they can go to calm down when they are feeling overwhelmed. It seems like such a simple thing, however I cannot emphasize enough what a difference having a calming area will make in their daily lives. I cannot wait to see my students utilize this area as they grow and learn how to better manage their emotions.
