  • The Magic of Reading

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

I am beyond excited for this project! It has been a bit of a challenge this year to get the middle schoolers to enjoy reading and to want to pick their own books. We have been slowly working our way through Harry Potter which is a personal favorite of mine since I was their age. This project will really help to bring the books we are reading to life and I think it is something that will really make an impact on these kids! Thank you so much, I can't wait to share the wizarding world with them and without your help I would not be able to do so!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • Gardening in the Alaskan Classroom

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much these materials change the whole atmosphere in our classroom. The students always say how happy they are to do hands on projects compared to worksheets and book work. We would never get the chance to do these projects without your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • The Art of Tie-Dye

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity and always helping out our class! We have been having so much fun with all of the projects and materials you have helped us to receive. The kids are really seeing how fun learning can be and that it's not all book work all the time!”

    With gratitude,

  • Love of Reading

    Funded Mar 3, 2021

Students enjoyed this project so much and the materials purchased really went a long way for them to develop a natural love of reading. It has been shown that students that excel and enjoy reading do better in all other subjects. That being said, it is so important for students to enjoy reading and be able to find books of their choosing.

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom and providing my students with the materials they need to succeed and to which they would not have had access to otherwise. With the help of you and the team over at donors choose we have been able to really go out of our way and provide students with the tools for success!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • Warrior Pride

    Funded Sep 20, 2024

This project was not only a lot of fun for the students but eye opening as well. I don't think they realized how much work goes into creating custom t-shirts and were surprised at how long it takes to weed vinyl. That being said, they loved being able to choose a design and color for their shirt as well as include their names and sport numbers.

Students were involved in every step of the way from designing the logos and choosing if they wanted their names, even the font. Then we cut the vinyl using a Cricut machine and the students were able to weed the designs themselves. Once cut and weeded we used an iron to transfer them onto our shirts. They took initiative throughout the whole process and love having warrior pride shirts to wear each week.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope you understand how much it means to be able to provide these students with that type of ownership when many come from low-income homes. This project really meant a lot to these kids and we appreciate your generosity. Since making our shirts at least one student is wearing it each day, they love them!”

  • Taking Science Outdoors

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Students used these resources to head outside and find plants and leaves to draw for our Science unit and to put on display for our upcoming Science Symposium. We loved that we didn't need to worry about the wet weather we receive in SE Alaska since we had our amazing all weather notebooks. We had so much fun learning about the plants and tress around us and even completed a scavenger hunt with the Alaska field guides donated!

Having picnic blankets that are waterproof has also made such a huge impact for our class. We went out and had a picnic for our field trip but also have found other uses for them. Just recently we decided to spend our sustained silent reading (SSR) time outdoors and we used the blankets purchased through donors choose to make that possible. We can't wait to continue to use the materials from this project again and find new uses for them inside and outside of the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • Reading Magic

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

Our students had so much fun with these materials and they went a long way in helping students develop a natural love of reading. It is so important for students to choose reading rather than just reading academic texts within the classroom. Thanks to donors choose our whole class came together to read and choose books that they enjoyed.

It is my hope that we have worked together to create a group of students that are now life-long readers. It is proven that students that excel in reading do better in all other subjects. Thank you so much for taking the time to help my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • Exploring the Possibilities of Science

    Funded Nov 5, 2024

Thank you so very much for taking the time to donate to our classroom and school! We can't wait to use all the materials in our classroom and have fun doing experiments. We rely on Donors Choose for many of our classroom materials and are beyond grateful! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Creating a Colorful, Welcoming, and Happy Classroom in Hydaburg, Alaska!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Our students absolutely love using the items that we purchased for this project. It has really brightened up our classroom which is ever so important when living in a rainforest where it is often gray and gloomy outside. The twinkle lights and lamps add some softer light to our room rather than using the ultra bright fluorescent lights.

We use the colorful trays and carts to keep us organized when transitioning from one subject to the next. I was able to assign each subject a certain color and give the students coordinating folders. This has helped students keep track of their worksheets and to know where they need to hand items in at.

Thank you so much for donating to our project! It has been extremely useful in our classroom!”

  • Curbing Hunger in the Classroom

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Many students have trouble focusing because they are hungry. Thanks to the materials purchased through this project my students were able to enjoy a small snack in the classroom each day. Not only were the students excited to receive snacks, but they were able to focus more in their lessons because of it.

We were so thankful each day to have a variety of snacks to choose from and to have enough for every student. This project provided a snack for students that may not have been able to afford one otherwise. No student should have to worry about hunger in the classroom. Thank you for helping provide these snacks for my students all year long.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

As a part of Science my students learn about the solar system, including the moon and all of it’s phases. However, only 2 out of a class of 19 have ever used a telescope. Most students in our Elementary have never used a telescope and would not know how to use one. There are so many things that kids can explore once they get excited about Science, the possibilities are endless! It is very important that students are able to directly observer the night sky and to kindle curiosity about Science. Not only will a telescope help students to better understand what they are learning, but it will also provide them with the knowledge of how to use telescopes which will benefit their future.
