Reading is way more fun when you get to pick where you read! Every time we have independent reading or writing assignments the first thing students ask me is if they can move to our bean bags or somewhere around the room. I have found that this small change in their environment makes a world of difference in their ability to sustain attention and increases their reading stamina. My students also love the ability to chose books and look forward to any time we get new books in the classroom. Currently, we do not have that many books in our room as I am a new teacher to the grade level. We are currently making great use of our school library! The materials I have selected will help my students foster a love of reading while allowing them the sensory input and movement they require in order to be successful. The classroom leveled libraries will allow students of all reading levels to choose from a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. I will be able to create an environment that even the most fidgety and unfocused student will be highly engaged. All of my students will find success and enjoyment in reading. The flexible seating will meet the needs of the various learning styles of my students and allow for movement and sensory input at all times without distracting other students. When given the ability to chose level appropriate books and a choice to move around the room to complete their work, my students will be on their way to not only reaching but surpassing their goals!
