Hurricane Harvey recently came through and did some major damage to our classroom. Among the casualties were our classroom library books. There are certain objects that can turn a classroom into an inviting area where kids want to be, and an engaging classroom library is one of those. Before Harvey came, we had a cozy little book nook in the corner of our room, stocked with interesting series books that the kids did not want to put down. The reality of our library now is not so cozy. I have dug out all of my extra books so that we at least have something to choose from, but the kids are not pleased. As for the home away from home feeling, it has gone with Harvey. We are currently teaching on dirty concrete as we wait for our floors to be tiled. This project would get my students excited about reading again, and it would help us begin to reclaim our classroom as our own. I am asking for nineteen different books including The Eternity Code, Doll Bones, and Mockingjay. I am also requesting five boxed sets of series books including the Inheritance Cycle and the Divergent Series so that my students will have something they want to read independently.
