My students are learning to use breathing as a technique to calm themselves when they feel overwhelmed or angry. Many of my students struggle with emotional disturbances and are learning ways to handle their emotions appropriately without fighting or running away. Yoga mats would help my students focus on their breathing instead of the hard classroom floor. They have been using old newspapers, but would love to have some basic yoga mats so that they don't get ink on their clothing. We are working through a unit on emotions, and use guided meditation to help work through uncomfortable emotions. This practice helps my students be calm and successful throughout the day.
