  • Tis the Season for Small Group Books!

    Funded Feb 21, 2023

We can't thank you enough for your contribution to the small group books! When my students saw the new books by Grace Lin delivered they were ecstatic. The "Year of the Rat" and "Dumpling Days" are two captivating books by Grace Lin that provide a mirror and window for my students as it embarks on a journey to Taiwan with Pacy's family and discovering her heritage. In the small reading groups students were able to make text to self connections and show how they were similar to Pacy and her journey and how they were different!

Your contribution has empowered our students to explore new worlds through the pages of these books, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to their education.”

  • Let’s Get Organized!

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Thank you so much for the book bins. The book bins have been incredibly valuable for organizing books in my classroom. They have made it much easier to ensure that students have access to a variety of engaging reading materials.

Additionally, the glue sticks have been a lifesaver when it comes to creating crafts and interactive activities. The glue's versatility allows us to reinforce lessons and track student learning by sticking their work in their notebooks.

But perhaps the most exciting addition to our supply box has been the sparkly mechanical pencils. These delightful tools are always ready to grab, making writing and note-taking more enjoyable for everyone involved. Thanks to these generous donations, our classroom has become a more organized and exciting place of learning.”

  • Mentor Texts for Joy and Craft Moves!

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

Thank you so much for your support and contribution, students love the books and writing materials!

In the classroom, my students have greatly benefited from the use of mentor texts, such as "A Bike Like Sergio's" by Maribeth Boelts and Pecan Pie Baby by Jacqueline Woodsen. These texts have played a crucial role in helping students explore the genre of realistic fiction and develop their own writing pieces. By examining the characters in the story, particularly the protagonist's connection with a bike, like Sergio's, students gain valuable insights into character development. They learn how to create multidimensional characters with relatable motivations and emotions. The mentor text serves as a model that allows students to analyze and understand the nuanced aspects of character building. Consequently, students become more adept at crafting their own engaging characters in their realistic fiction writing. This integration of mentor texts, like "A Bike Like Sergio's," empowers students to explore and expand their writing skills while immersing themselves in captivating narratives.

When my students delved into Elise Gravel's delightful series, they discovered a treasure trove of inspiration for their informational writing pieces. Harnessing Gravel's unique style, they embarked on creating cheeky and funny compositions that spoke directly to their audience, mirroring the engaging approach found in Gravel's informational books.

Through Gravel's influence, my students learned the art of infusing humor, wit, and direct communication into their writing. They mastered the ability to captivate their readers by presenting factual information in an entertaining and engaging manner. By emulating Gravel's approach, my students not only honed their writing skills but also developed a strong connection with their audience.”

  • Transitional Series for K-4 Readers

    Funded Mar 3, 2021

Our students gravitated towards the Mia Mayhem Series Puppy Mudge and Annie and Snowball collections. When the materials arrived, my co-teacher and I read blurbs of the series' first book so students could sneak peek at what the book is about. During the one-on-one conference, students came ready to discuss what they had read - from opinions on the characters to identifying the problems and solutions in the text. Students could discuss predictions of what was coming next. Mia Mayhem Series Puppy Mudge and Annie and Snowball collections were a great addition to the classroom library and rotated among students.”

My love of reading is something I want to instill in my students. I am compelled to ensure that my students love reading and can share their love of reading with others. The books I have selected are from my students' interests. These books will help to promote reading over the school year and make sure that they are reading at home. I would like to have an extensive collection of books, which hold onto their interests and make sure that they will continue reading. Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is a perfect way to build better readers. These books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. When children are excited about books in their hands, they are much more determined to read for pleasure, information, instructions, and connecting with others.
