Funded Apr 6, 2023Thank you so much for the book bins. The book bins have been incredibly valuable for organizing books in my classroom. They have made it much easier to ensure that students have access to a variety of engaging reading materials.
Additionally, the glue sticks have been a lifesaver when it comes to creating crafts and interactive activities. The glue's versatility allows us to reinforce lessons and track student learning by sticking their work in their notebooks.
But perhaps the most exciting addition to our supply box has been the sparkly mechanical pencils. These delightful tools are always ready to grab, making writing and note-taking more enjoyable for everyone involved. Funded Aug 26, 2019Thank you so much for your support and contribution, students love the books and writing materials!
In the classroom, my students have greatly benefited from the use of mentor texts, such as "A Bike Like Sergio's" by Maribeth Boelts and Pecan Pie Baby by Jacqueline Woodsen. These texts have played a crucial role in helping students explore the genre of realistic fiction and develop their own writing pieces. By examining the characters in the story, particularly the protagonist's connection with a bike, like Sergio's, students gain valuable insights into character development. They learn how to create multidimensional characters with relatable motivations and emotions. The mentor text serves as a model that allows students to analyze and understand the nuanced aspects of character building. Consequently, students become more adept at crafting their own engaging characters in their realistic fiction writing. This integration of mentor texts, like "A Bike Like Sergio's," empowers students to explore and expand their writing skills while immersing themselves in captivating narratives.
When my students delved into Elise Gravel's delightful series, they discovered a treasure trove of inspiration for their informational writing pieces. Harnessing Gravel's unique style, they embarked on creating cheeky and funny compositions that spoke directly to their audience, mirroring the engaging approach found in Gravel's informational books.
Through Gravel's influence, my students learned the art of infusing humor, wit, and direct communication into their writing. They mastered the ability to captivate their readers by presenting factual information in an entertaining and engaging manner. By emulating Gravel's approach, my students not only honed their writing skills but also developed a strong connection with their audience.”
