    Funded Apr 2, 2024

I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation through DonorsChoose. Thanks to your support, our students had the opportunity to explore their creativity and express themselves through art in ways they never imagined.

  • Math Adventures: Stickerland & New Series Books!

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

Introducing stickers as a tool in teaching multiplication to third graders proved to be an innovative and effective method that enhanced their understanding and engagement with mathematical concepts. By incorporating stickers into multiplication lessons, I aimed to make abstract mathematical concepts more tangible and relatable for my students.

Firstly, I utilized stickers to represent groups of objects or arrays, providing a visual representation of multiplication problems. For instance, when introducing the concept of multiplication as repeated addition, I gave each student a set of stickers and asked them to arrange them into equal groups, demonstrating the multiplication problem visually. This hands-on approach allowed students to grasp the concept more concretely, bridging the gap between abstract mathematical operations and real-world applications.

Moreover, stickers were instrumental in illustrating the commutative property of multiplication. I encouraged students to create arrays using stickers and then rearrange them to demonstrate that the product remains the same regardless of the order of factors. This interactive activity helped solidify their understanding of the commutative property and encouraged critical thinking as they explored different arrangements of stickers.

Furthermore, stickers served as a motivational tool, incentivizing students to actively participate and engage with multiplication activities. I rewarded students with colorful stickers for solving multiplication problems correctly or demonstrating a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. This positive reinforcement not only boosted their confidence but also fostered a positive attitude towards learning mathematics.”

  • Book Baggies to the Rescue!

    Funded Dec 7, 2023

Book baggies were a fantastic addition to our classroom, allowing kids to easily access a variety of books tailored to their reading level and interests.

In addition, thank you for the copy paper. Copy paper is such an essential part of our classroom where we can print lesson slips and math games for students to work with. In the following photos you see students playing the full the grid game where they have to use the knowledge of multiplication facts and area to fill the grid entirely with their own color crayon. The player who fills the grid with the most area is the winner. Students loved this game because they were able to play against each other and have fun all while using multiplication facts.”

  • Fiction & Nonfiction Books That Make Us Giggle!

    Funded Feb 6, 2024

The excitement in my classroom was palpable as I unveiled the new collection of books designed to make kids laugh out loud. The moment I displayed the Food Group series and informational books from Elise Gravel, my students were instantly captivated. They eagerly discussed which book they wanted to dive into first, their enthusiasm bubbling over with each cover they glimpsed.

After eagerly selecting their preferred books, my students wasted no time in cracking them open, immersing themselves in the colorful worlds within. Some even brought their new treasures with them to lunch and recess, unable to tear themselves away from the captivating stories and illustrations.”

  • Book Bonanza: Empowering Young Readers With Yasmin and Captain Awesome!

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

The Yasmin and Captain Awesome series is such a fantastic addition to our classroom library. These books feature a relatable and diverse protagonist, Yasmin, who embarks on various adventures that teach valuable life lessons. While I was unpacking the boxes students kept on eyeing the new series.

In our classroom we have a low, sturdy bookshelf that displays a selection of books, prominently featuring the Yasmin series and other favorites. We hope to add more to our classroom library books shelves so once students finish one complete series, they can then move onto another series.”

My love of reading is something I want to instill in my students. I am compelled to ensure that my students love reading and can share their love of reading with others. The books I have selected are from my students' interests. These books will help to promote reading over the school year and make sure that they are reading at home. I would like to have an extensive collection of books, which hold onto their interests and make sure that they will continue reading. Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is a perfect way to build better readers. These books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. When children are excited about books in their hands, they are much more determined to read for pleasure, information, instructions, and connecting with others.
