Diversity Dolls
Funded Apr 24, 2007The dolls you got for my children will be much used and loved. They will add a whole new dimension to our block center!
Although all children love blocks, and some children choose that center more than any other, there are children who prefer "dress up," where they can pretend roles. The dolls you give us will encourage more of this kind of play in our block center.
It will be especially meaningful for my children to play with diverse dolls -- dolls that look just like them, as well as dolls that look like other people in the neighborhood. We are all friends together -- relaxed, enjoyable dramatic play helps them to see it.
Thanks for your wonderful, wonderful contribution to our classroom. Know that your dolls will be used for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Angell”

Hatching Young Scientists
Funded Feb 27, 2007Wow! I am so excited! My children will get to see first-hand the miracle of new life! We have many plans and dreams for our eggs and baby chicks. We'll start reading stories about chicks and chickens right away!

Yucky Science
Funded Jan 12, 2007Thank you, Donor! My children will be thrilled to dig in the mud and find worms!
My preschoolers are at the perfect age to learn and care about taking care of the earth. Thanks to you, we can learn to compost and save space in the landfill. We can learn how worms turn garbage into fertile soil, and then grow plants in the soil to see for ourselves how fertile it is.
We are so lucky! Because of you, we're looking forward to a great year in science learning. Thanks so much!
Love,
Angell”

Growing Children
Funded Jan 9, 2007I am so excited to be getting a chance to grow seedlings with my children! I am an avid gardener and truly enjoy sharing my love of plants and growing things with the kiddos.
Because of you, the children in my class will be initiated to the tremendous satisfaction of planning, anticipating, and then experiencing the miracle of a seed becoming a plant. Thank you, thank you!

Easy Access Storage for Preschoolers
Funded Dec 4, 2006For a four-year-old, the chance to be in control of his/her own materials is a chance to be grown-up. My children take such pride in our classroom and the toys and materials inside it.
I know they will take just as much pride in keeping their own name bags and journals in their very own chair pockets.
The name bag is a re-sealable plastic bag which holds an activity each child is responsible for completing first thing in the morning. The bags allow me to differentiate curriculum and begin the day on a positive, business-like note.
Our journals are plain black/white notebooks in which children "write" (mostly draw) several times a week.
Journals and name bags are immensely valuable in themselves, and will be greatly enhanced by the chair pockets. Children will learn responsibility and independence by taking out, putting away, and keeping their own materials right at their chairs.
I can't wait until they come in and I can show you the pictures!
Sincerely,
Angell”

Kids and Bugs -- It's a Natural!
Funded Dec 4, 2006My preschoolers can't wait to have the "buggiest" classroom in the school! I'm clearing the shelves in our science center to make way for our little friends!
Four-year-olds are natural scientists on a life-long fact-finding mission. Living with these little critters will give them even more to ask questions about -- with the chance to figure out many answers themselves!
I am looking forward to sharing the wonder of creepy crawling things with my four-year-olds. Thank you for this opportunity.

The Sound of Reading
Funded Nov 10, 2006This listening center will mean the world to my preschoolers!
Your kindness will make a difference in the successful scholastic careers of my children. From their very earliest school experiences, they will see themselves as competent readers and students. Thanks to you, these early literacy experiences will be enjoyable and profitable.
I have already begun to make the tapes that will go into the listening
center. Not only do I read stories and make fun word-play tapes, but my husband, daughter, principal, librarian, cafeteria ladies -- everyone the kids know gets in on the act. Some of them read regular stories, but some read special books we make in
class using my digital camera. ("Our School Family," "The Opposite Book," "Rhyming Around the Classroom," etc.) To hear their favorite stories and rhymes read in the voices of important friends brings the written word to life in a way unlike any other.
Also, it's no small thrill to wear headphones and work the tape player!
I can't wait to show you the pictures. Thanks so much.
Yours sincerely,
Angell”
