Many students in my class find it difficult to focus on reading. Sometimes, this is because of a language barrier, over-stimulation, lots of energy, or just a focus on things beyond the classroom. Students often view reading as a fantastic voyage that they can't get enough of, or a chore that they're convinced they hate. I believe that the students who don't like to read simply haven't found the books that interest them. When they find that book, though, many of the issues with focus fade away. Our class was eager to share titles that they love, topics they would enjoy reading about, and authors that they want to hear more from. This project will enable students to explore a class library built around their unique interests, and boost their confidence in their Lexile levels. With these resources, students will get to enjoy their favorite books both in the classroom and at home. They will utilize non-fiction texts during our science and social studies lessons, or whenever they feel inclined to learn more. They will utilize fiction texts as inspiration while we explore the world of writing, as well as during free reading time.
