The materials that I chose for this project will be utilized as reading rewards for all 850 students, ranging from Kindergarten - 5th grade. When students complete their 15 hour bookmark, students will return the bookmark to the library and it will be added to the raffle for a monthly drawing. The more bookmarks a student turns in, the better their chance of winning a prize. Each month, at our school citizenship assembly, one student from each grade level, k-5, will be randomly selected for their reading achievement and rewarded with a prize. The principals will announce their name, reward them with a prize and remind the reading community of why they are receiving a reward. Yes! I want students to love reading for reading, but after a tough year of online learning, I want to reward students with some fun. For example, with our Accelerated Reader Program, we are still limited on the celebrations that we have done in the past, dance parties, extra recess, donut parties, etc. Receiving a small tangible prize boosts their self esteem and reminds them of the accomplishment that they made. In additon, a smile is brought to the face under that mask!! In addition to outside of school reading, 4th and 5th grade students wrote reading resolutions at the beginning of the school year. Students who achieve their READulations by winter break will be rewarded for their accomplishment in setting and striving to reach their goal with a goal mindset. This project supports the following standards: RL.K.10, RL.1.10, RL.2.10, RL.3.10, RL.4.10 and RL.5.10
