Welcoming Environment to Interact With Other Peers.
Funded Dec 4, 2024When my students first saw the wonderful welcoming snacks and things that you donated they were super appreciative. In my school we have advisory everyday and having something to welcome students is always wonderful. My classroom is also a place where students can come early and sit, a place to think and have a conversation. Students often come with their friends and eat during lunch. Students can also just pop in and get a snack or just a checking on a day that didn't start off right. Having this nice little tokens when they come really makes them feel welcomed.”

Funded Jan 9, 2024Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal. We have already started cooking in our classroom. We included vegetables that we grew in our classroom. Spinach, snap peas, lettuce and basil.
My students and I were so excited to see all the wonderful supplies. Students researched different dishes using the vegetables and herbs they grew. They then created budgets for the best way to feed their peers while also maximizing use of our classroom grown ingredients. We also had a documentary viewing on Microplastics and then ate our creations.
We are so excited to continue growing and cooking! Thank you again for helping me build food confidence in my classroom. While also exposing my students to life long skills.”

Funded Oct 26, 2023Our classroom is all energy. Students come during their lunch period to see how pants are doing. Students from other classes as questions. What are you growing? How long ago did you long those? What are you going to grow next? I say I wish I was in this class or ask me to plant some seeds of their own.
When my students first saw the materials they started planning what they wold grow and how much of each to grow. What we had before your donations grew mold and my students did not get to see any of the seeds they had planted germinate. With the materials we received due to your generosity they were able to grow seeds what geminated and kept commenting on how quickly their plants were growing.
Currently we have beans, lettuce, basil, mustard seed, and my students are also conducting their own experiments on growth and how environment can influence how much a plant grows. So of my students are testing the effect of soil type on their plants, other on population density ( how many pats can live in an area and still have enough nutrients, space for their own growth).”

Funded Sep 26, 2020This hand held microscope has come in handy to demonstrate experiments for my students especially now that we are all fully remote. We are currently working on our diffusion unit and the amount of light this microscope offers observations clearer. I was able to use the microscope to give me clear images and use that to record on loom.
My students were excited to conduct their first lab with images from the microscope. Normally during class students are able to conduct experiments on their own, but now since they have no access to a lab the microscope brings the experience to them. In our virtual lab students where able to make observations and have create a hypothesis for what they thought was happening. These microscope also offer good images of plant cells for the diffusion lab.
These hand held microscopes are going to come in handy in our future units also. My students will have a chance to make observations of pond water when we enter our ecology unit. These microscopes will allow them to make observations on interactions.”

Building Our Garden
Funded May 20, 2019Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our school. My students have been planting and are really looking forward to their harvest. They have been working hard to have their garden up this summer. I already have students that would like to volunteer this summer. The seeds and soil you helped fund are making a huge impact in our community and students feel ownership over what they are doing.
Your contribution to my students is something that has and will continue to impact the community. It has instilled a sense of pride in them. My students have gained an appreciation for the kind of work they are doing on a daily basis. My students look forward to seeing how their plants are progressing and how fantastic they will be. You made my students feel special. I even have a student that was so inspired by the class that he has decided to study horticulture/ hydroponics through engineering. Thank you for your wonderful donation, it is more valuable than you could ever imagine.”

Funded Mar 6, 2019Thank you so much for donating the raised bed to our school and the weed tarps. Your donations are the center point to our garden. With the help of your donation we will plant fruits and vegetables that my students will be able to harvest on our first ever community garden day.
When my students first learned that they were actually going to have a raised bed as part of our garden they couldn't believe it. We will be building our raised bed the first week of April and the second week of April we will be transplanting our seedling into the raised bed.
Thank you for allowing my students to take this community garden to a whole other level. We begin planning where the best place to build our raised be is through the use of surveys and google maps and then we will decide the best location for it. Thank you for allowing my students to have more hands on experiences in my class.
Sincerely,
Wendy”

Status of Soils and Water
Funded Dec 11, 2018Thank You so very much for your generous donation. In our classroom we have been learning about pH and different measures of good soil. A great deal of what we where speaking about was in theory and something that we thought we could never get real scientific data on our own garden. Until we received your donations! My students have been super excited about the kits and are extending the testing into research on how to change soil concentrations to suit the need of their plants. One of my students is very interested in roses and has been researching ways into lowering the soil pH to suit the plants she is interested in, but do it in a healthy way. You have opened possibilities for my students. My students are coming in to class with questions and are enjoying looking for data then having rich conversations on what they are learning. Thank you for your time, energy and contribution. You have made a huge impact in my students and what they are learning now will have value for the rest of their future.”

Funded Dec 12, 2018Thank You so very much for taking the time to make such a powerful donation to our students. The materials were desperately needed. As you know we are starting this garden from the ground up and your help is getting us closer every day to create a garden so wonderful everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy. We begin our growing outdoors in a few months and currently we have started growing things indoors. Very soon we will transplant what we have gown as soon as the weather gets a little warmer. My students are really excited about using the trenches; I have 20 bags of sediment ready to be moved and with your gift we are able to move them. We had some handheld shovels which I purchased that turned out to be a pretty sad excuse for shovels. After one use they all broke. The ones that you helped donate are very sturdy. When we originally started de-weeding the garden and began planting in September we had no supplies. Students pulled weeds along with me, but we used cheap disposable gloves. Nevertheless my students were so happy that they were going to get to work on the garden that they didn't allow this to stop them. We have started using the composter. For the time being we have it in our science lab room the kids receive breakfast in the morning and whenever organic matter that meets the guideline they place it in the composter. This year is an adventure thank you for making it possible!
Sincerely,
Wendy”

Funded Dec 3, 2018We are off to a fantastic start. My students were so happy to see the new materials they will be using for this unit. I have so many volunteers offering to take care of the plants during lunch I had to create passes for students to be allowed upstairs. My students are curious and motivated to learn more about all the specimens. Your generosity has given rise to our green thumb club. My students are having fun exploring the different variety of plants that you so graciously purchased for us. They are so impressed with how beautiful the coleus plants are. Very soon they will be designing their method of propagation with their plant and how to maximize their yield. Thank you for giving my students material to use for their plant propagation experiments and sparking that interest in them for this unit on plant propagation in my Horticulture class.
My students will be learning about rooting hormones, how to create cuttings and will research different methods to help their plant grow such as hydroponics. They will then use what they research to design an experiment using your donated materials. Thank you so very much for your help!
Sincerely,
Wendy”
