The children in this neighborhood feel empowered during play with babies. The play is not gender specific. Boys and girls alike like to play Mommy and Daddy and Big Sister and Big Brother. This type of play connects social-emotional growth, knowledge of family and community and of course, imagination. Doll House furniture is another way children use their imagination. This type of play encourages language, communication, cooperation and history as children re-enact scenes they know. Eighty percent of our school population is first generation English speaking. Play is the universal language that brings children together. A donation of these items would support social play and growth in my kindergarten classroom.
