"I need a break. Can I go see the social worker?" is a request heard several times a day in our school, especially on the days after a violent night in the community. At the moment, my office is a cool blank slate with nothing more than my desk and a couple of chairs. Your generousity will allow me to create a warm safe space for our students to practice mindfulness and overcome their adverse experiences so they can focus on learning and being Bmore strong. Students can easily access the Calm Kids app on the Lenovo tablet and make use of its contents through their #calmschools initiative. They can sit or lay on the giant comfy pillows while learning to practice mindfulness. To further help my students let go of unhealthy detrimental feelings and thoughts, the Zen garden and chime will be available to them. Each time they come to my office, they will grow stronger and better able to prevail over harmful experiences. Together, we can help my students get back their childhood and give them a chance to grow up to be emotionally healthy adults.
