My students are eager, capable, tough and diverse. They are also mostly from minority groups with a history of poor academic success. My classes are built around encouraging students to be the active readers and critical thinkers they will need to be. I push my freshmen to evaluate their choices constantly, through making those choices a part of the process. My students and I have high expectations, but we need the resources that they haven't been given to make up the gaps.
