Jumping Into Learning
Funded Aug 31, 2023Thank you for providing the money to make learning more engaging. We have a lot of content to learn with our reading resource and it can be text-heavy. With the money you provided, I was able to purchase hands-on models and graphics for students to touch, sort, and make connections with. The students were able to see the reading come to life with the models and graphics. This made for very engaging conversations and learning.
For our Human Body unit, students were able to use a skeleton when learning about how the systems work together to make our body function. They also used X-rays to create a body and learn what our bones actually look like. They labeled our large body systems magnets as a group while explaining how all the systems are interconnected.
When we do our space unit, students will use the planetarium to understand the Earth's rotation and how the sun and other plants in our solar system move. I am excited to have them sort the planet magnets in their order around the sun as well as sort them into types of planets while posting facts about each type. These will be great ways to review information before writing about it.
Thank you for providing these items so my students can have intentional, purposeful conversations about the important facts they are learning.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Colorado Department of Education.Fill the Library!!
Funded Oct 21, 2017Thank you so much for helping to fund this project. Your generosity was truly appreciated and unexpected! Now our class has received all of our books and students are really enjoying them. Our library is far from complete, but now there are high interest books at every level for the students in the classroom. Putting the correct level books into students' hands is a game changer for teaching reading and, more importantly, for the students to learn to love reading.
The students in this class are in third grade. At the beginning of the year, most students were having trouble picking books, finishing books and enjoying books. That is not true today. Most students in the classroom finish multiple books a week. They talk about their books with friends and take them home so they can continue reading. This project, and the books that we received, help to make this dream a reality.
During reading, students get to select a book that is at their level. They can sit anywhere and just read. Most students read for 25 to 45 minutes a day in the classroom. They feel a sense of accomplishment and pride during reading. I am excited to see the growth that these students will achieve as they move through the year. Thank you again for your support.”
