Students in my class have been doing book club this year and reading a vast amount of books that I have been getting from the library. For each start of the book club or readers/writers workshop students are read to a mentor text that models the topic that will be discussed later that day. I need read aloud books in order to model for the students the subject matter they are discussing or writing about for that day. Books help students develop as readers and having strong mentor texts helps them have a reference for what they are thinking about and working on with their own books. Having different kinds of books will help students grow and expand their learning on several different methods. Utilizing children's books and having books that have multiple modalities.
