Nurturing Future Innovators: Edison Robots in the Classroom

Funded Apr 27, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations. Now that we are back to in-person learning, I can start to implement a school-wide robotics program.

Students in my class are using the robots first so I can develop activities to help support teachers as they use the robots in their class. My students are programming the robots and experimenting with track designs to collect data about what kinds of lines the robots track best. Next, they will be designing a Mars surface to navigate their Edison robot "rovers" over as they program their robots to collect data. We have been studying the Perseverance Mars rover and debating whether astronauts should be sent to Mars, so they are very focused.

"Wow" and "this is so cool" are just some of the excited comments from my students when they were programming the robots. It's great to see them so thrilled about robotics and engaged in using their math and science skills, and creativity to program the robots. As you know, learning to engineer and program robots are essential skills for this generation of learners, and with your help, they are gaining essential skills while having fun. Every day they ask, "Mrs. Fleck, can we program our Edison's today?"

Kindergarten will be using the robots next and are excited to program them to track a line across an obstacle course they design. Thank you again for your generosity in funding our project. Thanks to you, all of our students, from kindergarten through 5th grade, will benefit from your donation and gain essential skills in robotics, and best of all, have fun in the process! Thank you!”

With gratitude,

Teacher Fleck
