Learning to read is based in a child's application and understanding of literacy. In order to find their identity as a reader, students need access to a variety of high-interest books that keeps students engaged and inspired to read. Keeping the learning fresh, new, and fun is important for student engagement! This project includes a wide variety of books, that can inspire students to sit with their nose in a book for hours to inspire students to develop a "reader's identity". The items I'm requesting include book pouches to last the entire school year as well as provide students with access to a wide range of high-interest books to help them develop a passion for reading. The books are varied enough that a beginning reader can start to develop their decoding and comprehension skills, while a more developed reader can start to build on their interests on reading a variety of texts. With the books I have selected, students will have more opportunities to be exposed to the empowerment of reading and have plenty of ways to demonstrate literacy.
