  • Sensational Sensory Equipment

    Funded Oct 31, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my students. They have already benefitted from access to these materials. The sensory equipment has made participating and attending in their school day much easier for many of our students. It has been amazing to have so many different types of equipment to try with students and find the best individual option for each student.

My students were so excited to try out the new equipment. Many of the items are new and interesting, so they were even more willing to try to use them throughout their day. This equipment will continue to help my students the rest of this year, but also future students in the upcoming years.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mata

  • Engaging Technology

    Funded Jan 29, 2022

The wonderful donation of the iPad and case has been instrumental in engaging my students and getting them to participate in a variety of activities! I have downloaded apps that work on cause and effect for my younger students, I have used the iPad to reinforce the handwriting skills of my older students and play games that are fun but also target their fine motor and visual perceptual skills. It has made such a difference with enticing my students to work on activities that are non-preferred or challenging for them. We are so grateful for your donation and your donation will continue to be utilized for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

  • Functional Skills Independence!

    Funded Oct 9, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation of supplies to help my students with their self-help skills. They have already been successful since my students are more willing to work on these necessary skills for independence, but they don't know they are working! It seems like playing to them which makes it even more meaningful.

I have a student with cerebral palsy who can be difficult to motivate to participate in these tasks because it is quite hard for him. However, once I introduced the stuffed animals with the practice buttons and snaps, he was so excited. He requests it every time we work together on these skills. It has truly been amazing to see!

Thank you again for your support of my students. They have already benefitted so much from that and are able to keep working towards independence!”

  • Alternative Seating for Students With Disabilities

    Funded Nov 6, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my students! They are already benefiting from the increased opportunity to get movement throughout their day while seated and learning at their desks. One student uses the yoga ball chair and bounces up and down while completing work. This is a huge improvement from wandering the classroom during seated work times and enhances his learning.

Another student that uses one of the wiggle cushions has been using it during music rotations. This is the first time that he has been able to tolerate going to music, as the loud noises can be upsetting to him.

These adaptive seating options have made such a difference my student's lives. This gift will benefit them for years to come. We are so appreciative of this gift!”

  • Switch Adapted Toys

    Funded Nov 2, 2017

The new switch adapted and cause-effect toys that we received have been extremely beneficial to our students. These novel and developmentally appropriate toys have allowed them to engage with their environment and peers. When we brought out these toys to work with our special education preschool students, the other typically developing students were immediately drawn to the toys and wanted to play with their peers. This type of interaction is often limited in the special needs children that we work with and to see their faces light up while playing with their peers and the toys was incredible.

One student that we work with has an attention span limited to only a few minutes. These engaging toys helped him to attend to the toy for almost twice the amount of time. This student's ability to attend is crucial for his development and learning and would not have been possible without the donation.

This donation has meant the world to our students. It has helped us expand their lives socially and physically. We are incredibly grateful for this donation and the toys will continue to help them learn and grow.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mata

Switch adapted toys are battery operated toys that are activated by pushing a large "switch". They produce lights, sound and movement when the switch is pressed and are extremely motivating to our preschool students. For students who have motor or cognitive impairments that make them unable activate traditional battery operated toys, this is a great way for them to be able to engage with their environment, including their peers. Using switch adapted toys is a proven method to help young students develop an understanding of the cause and effect relationship when they push a switch. Many of these preschool students will utilize similar switches for their communication devices in the future. Switch adapted toys establish the foundational skills that the students will need in the future for communication and assistive technology. Currently, our preschool students have limited access to these toys, as there are more students who need them than there are toys. We have the potential to incorporate these switches into every treatment session. This project would target the Utah Core curriculum of English Language Arts, as switches will help to develop the students' cognitive skills and prepare them for communication devices in the future. This project would provide sustainable resources to the special education preschool students. These devices are extremely durable and can be used for many years to come.
